Designed in 1980, the Bedale jacket was born from Barbour's passion for horseback riding, featuring a short and lightweight jacket that offers versatility and functionality. Dame Margaret Barbour designed the Bedale with equestrian practicality in mind, featuring a shorter length, a loose fit, rear vents, and the essential inner nylon band that prevented moisture from horses from seeping into the jacket. Made with 170g medium-weight waxed cotton and fully compatible with optional thermal linings and zip-in hoods, the Bedale is an ideal all-year-round jacket, perfect for a multitude of occasions. It includes all the classic elements of a Barbour jacket, such as a two-way brass ring zipper and a "Stormfly" studded front, two large bellows pockets, two handwarmer pockets lined with mole leather, and the traditional corduroy collar with studs for a hidden collar flap. Now a classic, the practicality and simple style of the Bedale remain popular across all ages. The popularity of the Bedale has inspired a reduced version for women: the Beadnell, named after a small fishing village in Northumberland.
